Creative Ecologies

What I give name to as creative ecologies or more specifically connective creative ecologies are ways of living and being that are not only consciously informed by the wonder and insight of creativity but also the participatory interconnection and interdependence of all life.

For me, creativity is not a luxury*—it is a powerful force and practice that we can engage as a catalyst and vehicle for personal, collective, socio-political, ecological and spiritual transformation. This purview stems from the understanding that connectivity is vital to ways of living, being, relating and creating that inspire and sustain individual as well as mutual flourishing. This connectivity can extend our sense of humanity, beyond nonsensical human-centricity, to radically attentive consideration of the more-than-human world that we are inextricably a part of.

Acknowledging, being attuned to and living by way of connective creative ecologies is part of a broader philosophy I call Connective Practice, emerging from decades of self and world inquiry and independent creative practice. This philosophy-practice informs my deep connection to a larger living commons, the web of life and consciousness that collaborates in infinite ways to inspire, sustain and perpetuate aliveness, self-determination, justice and resilience.

*This phrase is inspired by “Poetry is Not a Luxury” in Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches by Audre Lorde as well as my lifelong practice of creativity as life-sustaining.
